Students' test scores are among the highest statewide and nationally, often beating state and nation averages.

Within Carlsbad, lie many smaller communities, Carlsbad Village, The Barrio, Olde Carlsbad, Calavera Hills, Summerhouse, The Colony, Tanglewood, Robertson Ranch, Sunny Creek, The Summit, Bressi Ranch, La Costa Greens, La Costa Oaks, La Costa Ridge, La Costa Valley, Rancho Carillo, Ponto, and Aviara, that each have their own unique character to them. These neighborhoods all come together to form the culture and charm of Carlsbad as a whole.
