Solana Beach

Learn about Solana Beach

Hosting only around 13,000 residents, the city of Solana Beach is a small but lively part of San Diego North County Coastal. This charming beach community offers spectacular coastal beaches and daily breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. North of Solana Beach is Encinitas and south is Del Mar. To the east lies the area of Rancho Santa Fe.

This area began to develop in 1886 when the construction of Lake Hodges Dam began and originally was named Lockwood Mesa. Later, in 1923, the area was renamed Solana Beach. Solana Beach is nationally known as being the first city to ban smoking on its public beaches, which sparked a movement in other towns and cities across the country to do the same.

Solana Beach is famous for its beautiful beaches, including Fletcher Cove and Tide Beach Park. Fletcher Cove is a favorite spot for surfing and wildlife viewing, as there is thriving sea life, including seals and other intriguing sea creatures.

The Solana Beach Elementary School District operates the city's own elementary schools, Solana Vista Elementary School and Skyline Elementary school. In addition, there are 2 private schools in the area that offer elementary education. Due to its size, once in middle school, Solana Beach is a part of larger school districts. For middle school, students attend Earl Warren Middle School and in high school, they attend Torrey Pines High School, San Dieguito Academy, or Canyon Crest Academy, which are a part of San Dieguito Union High School District.
